What's your favorite season of One Tree Hill? Or, if you want, you can rank the seasons.
My ranking would go like this:
Season Three Season Four Season One Season Six Season Two Season Five

I'm not sure what my favourite season. Probably six. So full of Leytony goodness, haha. And I loved Sam and her relationship to Brooke and Brooke and Julian.
And despite how sad it was, Quentin's death and the episodes surrounding it were so moving.
There's no enough Whitey though, love that guy.

I've got to say that emotionally, six was a favourite. Leyton leaving, Sam leaving, the Dan/Whitey scene... wow. I can honestly say I cried A LOT during s6.
Overall... damn. Hard to look past seasons three and four. Season three was arguably the greatest season of any team drama ever.

I always have trouble deciding on this, but I think I will have to go with season 3.

Season 5 actually causes me great pain to watch, lol. I couldn't watch all of it again. Lucas is so far from himself and him and Peyton are so close to being broken that I hate it.
I think season two was the worst BUT I love Jake too, so I don't like saying that...
I think season three wins hands down on the writing and everything that happened that season but I do love four and six too for all the Leyton goodness! ;D

But it showed how life drifts you apart and stuff and that is so normal, like you just realize one day the people you thought would be there forever are some how gone. But of course i wanted them to all be back together.

I know what you mean. Mark did a great job with the time jump showing how difficult it is to chase your dreams and remain the same person and whilst some flourish, others struggle.
Even though a lot of fans don't like the person that Lucas became in season five, myself included, I understand that it demonstrated the difficulties of remaining true to yourself when you lose sight of it and things don't work out the way you imagined.

The only problem I had with this is that EVERYONE seemed so much different. Nathan Broke his legs so he was in a wheelchair. He had hideous, long, dirty hair and barely interacted with anyone other than Haley and Jamie. Haley Honestly an empty shell of her former self. She was always depressed and seemed to be moping around... like Holly Marie Combs as Piper in the last few seasons of Charmed. Brooke The only one that changed for the better, no matter how much I missed her uber bitch-ness. Peyton Was too busy depressing over not having Lucas, and became a basic bitch. Lucas I've never really liked Lucas too much but this season especially he just seemed bitter.

Brooke The only one that changed for the better, no matter how much I missed her uber bitch-ness. Peyton Was too busy depressing over not having Lucas, and became a basic bitch. Lucas I've never really liked Lucas too much but this season especially he just seemed bitter. But like we've been saying, that's the whole point of this season. Nathan had his dream shattered by his own impulsive actions and we saw him heading towards becoming Dan. The whole first 4 seasons are about Nathan wanting to go to the NBA and just when it was in his reach he let it go. Of course he was going to withdraw and behave in the way he did. It's totally within his character - look at how he behaved when Haley went on tour. Haley I'm more on your level with because I think she thought she was superior to everyone else at times but she'd had to grow up so quickly and post-Lindsey I think she finds her way back to her old self. Brooke was catapulted in fame and wealth and she really needed humbling. People can't carry on into their twenties getting away with having the level of bitchiness in high school. She grew up, basically. Peyton was hurting so much through that season. Yes, she was a bit of a bitch to Lindsey but that's how that situation goes I'm afraid. She was constantly knocked down in that season and when the final straw came she tried to let Luke go. I think I'd probably behave in much the same way if I lost the love of my life even though all my friends were telling me he was still in love with me despite his recent behaviour. Lucas is not at his best in this season but I've already mentioned about losing your dreams and stuff above. He was bitter and stubborn in season five to the point where he was pretty much lying to himself. Mark introducing the time jump had to mean that they would change because to be honest, who would have wanted to see them exactly as they were in high school in their twenties?

I know all of this happened and for the benefit of the characters... I'm just trying to prove that too much was done to the characters all at once.
That said, I honestly think it was a detriment to the show, and I know of many people who had loved the first four seasons (usually just the first three) but despised Season 5, thus never coming back for 6 or 7.
Season Six was a return to the former characters, except there are obviously new problems that relate to their age, not high school.

It's not something you can prove, simply because there's no wrong and right here. It's opinion and therefore never fact. I don't think it's a detriment just because some people decided not to stick it out. I don't watch season 7 but that doesn't mean I think it's a detriment. It means I'm too stubborn to accept change and that's nothing to do with Mark or anyone else involved in the show. It would have been more detrimental for season five not to have realistically represented what happens when you go out into the big wide world. And if what happened benefited the characters and audience's understanding of them then how can it be detrimental?

And if what happened benefited the characters and audience's understanding of them then how can it be detrimental? I said it was to the benefit of the characters... the detriment part was just that it affected the show. Season Five, was in my opinion, the darkest season. The characters were almost unfamiliar to the audience, and it was hard to recognize them almost. Also my saying that S5 was a detriment to the show as a whole was unrelated to my comment of people leaving the show. A lot of people (over on the IMDb especially) have been calling the 7th Season a "spin-off of sorts."
