How does everyone feel about Dan? I honestly could not stand him for most of the show. He just did so many horrible things to both Lucas and Nathan and then Keith and pretty much everyone. Only after seeing Dan did I see that there was potential for me to begin to like Nathan - finally being able to see what was happening to him. But I watched the season six finale again the other day and man, my heart breaks for him by this point. Well it has done before, from season five really when he saves Jamie and then again when Carrie gets him. It's so hard though because I adored Keith but when he goes to see Peyton and asks to hold Sawyer, darn, I was so sad for him. So is anyone else conflicted when it comes to Dan, like I am? Or do you just outright hate him? (I don't think there's anyone who could actually outright like him, right? )

I hated Dan... then he seemed to have changed, even starting in season five. By this point in S7 my heart just breaks for him. He's even become something of an anti-hero in that you get the sense he's going to do the right thing by his family, even if it's the wrong thing morally.
I think my favourite moment of seasons five and six were him first chasing down Nanny Carrie in the motel, then shooting her not long after. It was dark, it was ruthless, but you knew there was no damn way she was going to mess with Dan Scott's grandson and get away with it.
That episode, by the way, is one of my all time favourites. You could just feel the tension building all the way through. It's even turned me on Naley a bit. I mean, what the hell else does he have to do to prove he's changed?

Yeah, I know what you mean. He's finally genuine about wanting to change and be a better man but they don't want to let him back in. Whenever I think about, I end thinking the same thing as I'm sure some of the characters do - he killed Keith! And no matter how sorry he is, he can't bring him back.
I really liked that episode, well series of episodes, too. They were really intense.
I read a pretty good fanfic the other day with an alternative way that episode went. It ended up with Peyton getting kidnapped with Jamie, being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Plus, Lucas didn't say I do which made me enjoy it more than the actual episode, lol.

I don't know what his deal is now, except he's married to rachel , so I can't judge. I hated him from Seasons 1-5. In the end of S5 and all of S6, I actually did feel a bit bad for him, and he kind of grew on me. =/

He starts to grow on me. I mean, eventually he really is sorry for what he did to Keith. At first I think he was mainly sorry for taking Keith away from other people, but now he's actually realised he took Keith away from himself too. And let's face it, IF Keith was still around, he would have forgiven (to some degree, at least,) Dan by now. I'm going to be on a massive rewatch soon - come my birthday in...11 days, I'll have the whole lot so I'm sure my feelings towards him will go up and down again!

I stopped watching in the middle of season 6, and I couldn't care more after that. lol In every series there should be some villain, that's why I can tolerate him when Keith is still there, after they dumbly killed Keith, it becomes down hill. Sorry for the rant, but I really despise the character

Sorry for the rant, but I really despise the character lol, I was watching some of the special features the other day, I think it might have been the One Tree Hill at 100 thing and they had Paul Johansson on there saying that people wrote in asking Mark to fire him because they hated him! Were you one of them? After rewatching it all again, I've realised that seasons 1-3 he is actually loathsome. He is just so cruel and vindictive for like, no reason. I don't like what he does in season 4 with the whole trying to win Karen over, knowing what he had done BUT the finale makes me waver lol. The tears running down his eyes when Karen walks away and when he falls to the ground and starts crying. But then I'm a big dafty and cry at everything! ;P I like his interaction with Jamie, but I do think he had too much screen time in season 6. There was a lot about him and not so much about some of the other characters.

"saying that people wrote in asking Mark to fire him because they hated him!", really? lol I thought I was the only one. But despite that, I like OTH especially cause of Peyton *dreaming*

I always like Dan one way or another. On every show there is one character that is so evil and that is dan. But i feel so sorry like you said when he wanted to hold Sawyer and with Whitey. He had bad moments and he had good. I do like him though and when he isnt around like the newest season at points it is a little boring lol.

marisa, you're mention of Whitey has just given me a *bing* light bulb moment. Whitey couldn't stand Dan for many of the things that he did, to him, to Nathan and Lucas, to Keith, but he offers him redemption at the end. And for Whitey to, in some way forgive him (in the sense of acknowledging that it's not too late) kind of makes me rethink the way we should him by the end. Thanks for that marisa

Also where would nathan be right now if it weren't for Dan in season 7 didn't want to say exact thing b.c couldn't figure out how to use spoiler.
