Okay, so I've never watched these. Are they related shows? And the new 90210? Is it like a remake thing, are any of the same characters there? Please don't laugh at my ignorance...

LOLOLOLOL Jk Okay, so basically Aaron Spelling and Darren Starr created both Beverly Hills, 90210 and Melrose Place. BH90210 began airing in 1990, starring Jason Priestley as Brandon Walsh, while Shannen Doherty played his twin sister, Brenda Walsh. Jennie Garth also starred as Kelly Taylor, Tori Spelling as Donna Martin, Brian Austin Green as David Silver, Ian Ziering as Steve Sanders, Luke Perry as Dylan McKay, and Gabrielle Carteris as Andrea Zuckerman.* It went for ten seasons, until 2000, when it was cancelled. Notable Plots on 90210 you may have heard about: "DONNA MARTIN GRADUATES!", the Brenda/Kelly/Dylan love triangle, Shannen Doherty getting fired. * Gabrielle Carteris was 29 when she was hired to portray 16 year old Andrea Zuckerman. In 1992, Melrose Place was created. The first season, highly criticized, is basically a different show than the other six seasons. It's known for its crazy/psycho characters and plotlines. The resident of Melrose Place were all in their twenties, so it was a bit more adult than 90210. In 2008, 90210 was created on The CW. It was not created by the original creators (Starr left and created Sex and the City and Spelling passed away.) Jennie Garth, Shannen Doherty (who had left the show in 1994 and had not made an appearance since), and Tori Spelling all reprised their roles on the sequel briefly. The new Melrose Place started in 2009, and Heather Locklear, Daphne Zuniga, Laura Leighton, Michael Calabro, and Josie Bissett all reprised their roles briefly. Good job Pacey!
Just to add a couple things-
The original Melrose Place was a spin off of BH90210....there was a character named Jake who guest starred on 2 episodes of BH90210 he was Dylan's buddy and developed a thing with Kelly Taylor. Jake was older and kind of ended up leading Kelly on. They took the Jake character and put him as a resident in Melrose Place and BH90210 characters Kelly, Donna, Steve, and David all guested in the very beginning of Melrose Place.
To my knowleadge the new Melrose Place and 90210 are not connected in any way. ( I don't watch the new MP)
Also the new 90210 is sort of like a re-make and a spin off at the same time. The original show focused on twins brandon and brenda and the Walsh family from Minnesota who moved to Beverly Hills because of father Jim Walsh's work transfer. The new show focuses on brother and sister Annie and Dixon and the Wilson family who moved to Beverly Hills from Kansas so dad Harry could take over as principal at West Beverly...hence the remake.
Now where the spin off comes in is the character of Erin "Silver". Silver is the daughter of Jackie Taylor and Mel Silver wich makes her half sister to original characters Kelly Taylor and David Silver. Kelly isn't a series regular but she did make regular guest appearances on the new show throughout season 1 and half of season 2.
Just thought I would throw those key points out there lol.

I forgot I'd posted in here! lol
Thanks guys, it makes a little more sense now. I was just confused about how they were related and stuff.
I've caught bits here and there of the new 90210. Did Tiffany Amber Theisen appear in BH90210 at some point? That's lodged in my brain for some reason...maybe it was Baywatch? Or both? I don't know and I'm going to be quiet now.

Yeah Tiffany was in the older 90210 for a few seasons.

Tiff did Baywatch as well, FWIW.
And Priestly returned to West Bev to direct an episode, too.
Incidentally, I met Luke Perry in my hometown once. Which was surreal as the show had just ended and my town has no redeeming features.

I'd love to know what Luke was like too Kandiman, details please A friend of a friend once met him in the vets! and said he was lovely and very chatty. I haven't actually spoken to Luke myself but have seen him and posted a link in the banners thread as to why I have a slighlty biased opinion on him. I've also seen but not spoken to Jason and Shannon, I'm going to a event that Brian Austin Green is attending in June so hopefully I'll get to actually meet him, if I get piccies I'll post them here ;D

I only chatted to him very briefly; he was with his wife and kid and he was really nice but had to go cos the kid was being bratty. This was actually on my school leaving day, too, so my school shirt isn't just signed by my classmates but Luke Perry, too.
If I can find it, I'll take a pic. He signed it twice: Once as Luke and once as Dylan. It was like graduating West Bev.

I met Brian yesterday, he's very nice. He said none of the cast expected BH 90210 to go past the pilot episode.
