A friend and I had a brief discussion/rant about the end of S5 and Lucas' proposal over the phone?
Both of us agreed that after that year, it was very bold of Lucas to do what he did. It was very much within Peyton's character to forgive him and accept and while LP have never been about the huge declarations of love - directly to each other anyway - did you want to see some glimpse of grovelling?

Yes in a way because he basically took her heart and stomped on it that entire season. He would send her mixed messages then he said he hated her. Then poof he proposes and it is all okay. I liked it because at this point I was like come on I want to see Peyton and Lucas happy after all the mess but in real life a little grovelling should have been necessary. The only other reason I am okay with it in the long run is because now I know they are only on for one more season and I wanted as much happy as we could get. Does that make sense?
You know season five is what sold me on Leyton. I saw how much pain Peyton was in and how much she did truly love Lucas. I was rooting for her. I just couldn't help myself anymore I was like Lucas/Peyton stop playing games your meant to be!

Lol, it seems like its a strange season to come onto the LP bandwagon but I can see what you mean. For me, it's an incredibly painful season and I want to slap Lucas throughout most of it. I mean the look on his face when she tells him she WAS at the signing, when she tells him she still loves me, the look of absolute despair on his face in the gym scene, the look of guilt when she turn up after that proposal and the fact he seeks out at his wedding to another person! I mean COME ON! lol (I feel so much better now)
And that's why I can understand people finding it strange that she forgives him. But then I remembered her face after she read the book. Lindsey gave her The Comet to read and I think that changed everything. Peyton could forgive Lucas because she could now see how he really felt and it was now up to her to get him to see it. I'm not saying I like that though. After everything he'd done, I would happily like to have seen Lucas fighting for her because he's never had to no matter what he's done to her.
So yeah, I'd forgotten about the book. I think that Peyton knew how he really felt so that helped her to forgive him. And I guess maybe a little bit of what Lucas said himself: 'Life always seems to get in the way with us' - so much had happened that if this was their chance to be happy, why wouldn't she take it?
